Atenas Basketball Team Prepares for Debut in Argentine League

For Athens, Saturday, October 14 is marked on the calendar. It will be the team’s debut in the Argentine Basketball League. It will be the beginning of a long road in his search to return to “his” place, the National League.

The team led by Gustavo Peirone continues with the preparation for its first match, against the also debutant Sportivo Suardi, which comes from the Federal League. The General Bustos neighborhood club and the Santa Fe team will host the opening match of the 2023/2024 season.

After some doubts due to the intention to drop out of the competition of Sarmiento de Chaco, a member of the Northern Conference along with the Cordobans Atenas, Barrio Parque and San Isidro de San Francisco, the Argentine League will begin on the scheduled date. Ameghino from Villa María, for his part, will play in the new campaign in the Southern Conference.

In this way, the cast of “Negro” Peirone will debut on October 14, locally. In the General Bustos neighborhood, work continues on the new stadium. The parquet floor and seats are being installed, but they will not arrive in time for the start of the Argentine League, and Atenas will receive Suardi at the Carlos Cerutti Sports Center.

In addition, Verde will have two more home games, on October 16 against San Isidro and on October 18 against Deportivo Norte de Armstrong (Santa Fe), which will also be played in the historic San Martín neighborhood stadium.

In the opening match of the Argentine League, which has not yet defined the schedule, the authorities of the Association of Clubs (AdC) will be present, according to the General Bustos neighborhood entity.

The last trials of Athens

Atenas, led by “Negro” Peirone, continues to prepare for its debut against Suardi, and will play the last two rehearsals this week. The first will be on Friday, at 9:30 p.m., in Las Varillas against the local Almafuerte, representative of the Cordobesa League.

The next and last preparation match will be on Saturday in San Francisco against San Isidro, in the second leg of the match played last Saturday at the Cerutti, with a victory for Los Halcones by 86 to 79. The Friendship Cup will be at stake.

Tickets are now on sale in San Francisco, at 1,000 pesos for adults, while children under 15 years of age enter free of charge.
