The Argentine National Team is facing a new I choose to believe. Yes again. Starting this Tuesday, the men’s basketball team will debut in Santiago 2023 and thus the road to La Tercera will begin: the third gold medal in its history in a Pan American Game.
Argentina is led by Leandro Ramella, the coach of Quimsa, the last champion of the National Leagueand traveled to Chile with a competitive squad that was called with the endorsement of Pablo Prigioni, the head coach of the team who these days is facing his urgent commitments as an assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA.
The National Team shares Group A with Venezuela, Panama and the Dominican Republic. The premiere will be this Tuesday against Vinotinto, while the Canaleros will play on Wednesday while the closing of the zone will be on Thursday against the Dominicans. The three meetings will be at 10:30.
The National Team is preparing for the Pan American Championship.
Group B, for its part, is made up of Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Puerto Rico, and the semifinals will be played by the best two from each zone while the third and fourth will go to the Reclassification (both duels on Friday 3/11). The medal finals, meanwhile, will be on Saturday the 4th.
“All the players have a tremendous commitment and desire, both those who come from Europe who made a very long trip and were training minutes after arriving, as well as those who played one night in Brazil and the next day were here training,” Ramella highlighted in in relation to the squad made up of seven players from the National League, the young Bocca and Giovanetti who come from Spain, and those who joined from the Rio country such as Baralle, Cuello and Scala.
With these players, it is easy to think that Argentina’s objective is to fight for the medals and try to win the third gold as happened in Mar del Plata 1995 and Lima 2019 –In addition there were two silver medals, Buenos Aires 1951 and Mexico 1955–, although the coach prefers to go step by step.
“They are going to be very tough rivals and we all want to play in the semifinals to fight for a medal. There are three games in three consecutive days, so there is no margin for error,” concluded Ramella, who knows that the road to La Tercera will not be easy.
