Andrey Rublev is the last top 10 player in the quarterfinals at the ATP Masters in Shanghai. A fate that Roger Federer was once able to use successfully.

Thanks to his ranking position, Andrey Rublev is now the favorite for the title in Shanghai.
On paper, Andrey Rublev’s chances of winning the title are minimal. In the quarterfinals, the seventh in the ATP rankings will face Ugo Humbert, who is currently ranked 34th, on Friday. In the possible semi-final it will be against the winner of the duel Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 19) or Nicolas Jarry (ATP 22). Appearances could be deceiving, as both players are currently in impressive form. Dimitrov defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16.
With the two established semi-finalists Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 17) and Sebastian Korda (ATP 26), no top 10 player is any longer a threat to the 14-time title holder on the tour, who celebrated his title debut at Masters level in April .

The last time that only one player from the top ten was represented in the quarterfinals at a Masters tournament was in 2006. In Toronto, only Roger Federer from the select group reached the round of the last eight. At the end of the week, the Swiss lifted the trophy.
An incident that could now repeat itself with Rublev. Statistically speaking, the chance of winning the title is as high as it rarely happens in 1000cc events. But of course this also offers the other players a rare opportunity for one of the really big titles on the tour.
