Süleyman Öztürk thinks that Ajax would currently be second in the Eredivisie with Ange Postecoglou at the helm, the Voetbal International analyst says in a video item on YouTube.

According to Öztürk, the Tottenham Hotspur manager was ‘discovered far too late’. “He was scouted ten years too late. He was already a good trainer ten years ago, but he is from Australia and talks a bit strangely.”

“He doesn’t really have a football background, so we can’t take him seriously, many clubs must have thought,” he continues his argument. “He has indeed not played 130 international matches, but he is a very good trainer.”

Öztürk even states that Postecoglou could also have worked in Amsterdam. “If he had been scouted in time… He would just be at Celtic, right,” the analyst emphasizes. “He could have worked for number sixteen in the Eredivisie, and then they would have been second,” he refers to Ajax.

Last summer, Postecoglou was included in several lists of successors to John Heitinga, but the choice ultimately fell on Maurice Steijn. The 49-year-old coach has not yet managed to get Ajax going and is currently sixteenth in the Eredivisie.

Tottenham dared to do business with Postecoglou and it paid off. The Australian and his team lead the Premier League after eight matches and are still undefeated.

He started his coaching career at Brisbane Roar, after which he became national coach of Australia and then joined Celtic via the Japanese Yokohama F. Marinos. In Scotland he managed to pull Celtic out of the doldrums and that earned him a contract with Tottenham.
