Algerian Judo Team Wins Bronze at 2023 World Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia

The Algerian judo selection (seniors/mixed) won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia, after its victory against Germany with a score of 4-2.

The victories of the Algerian team against Germany were the work of Amina Belkadi at the expense of Stolze Friederike (-70kg), Sonia Asselah against Samira Bouizgarne (+70kg), Messaoud Redouane Dris ahead of Ruebo Jano (-73kg). ) and Mustapha Yasser Bouamar against Belz Marvin (+90kg).

The Algerian team had a good start to the tournament, with a big victory against Morocco (4-0) and a close victory over France (4-3) in the quarter-final.

In the semi-final, Dris’ teammates lost to Uzbekistan with a score of (4-2), after the defeats of Zina Bouakache, Dris Messaoud, Imad Aghiles Benazzoug and Mohamed El Mahdi Lili, against the success of Sonia Asselah and Belkadi.

The title of the 2023 World Martial Arts Games went to Uzbekistan, winner against Brazil with a score of 4-2.

The seven national representatives in this competition are: Dris Messaoud (-73 kg), Imad Aghilès Benazoug, (-73 kg), Mustapha Yasser Bouamar (+90 kg) and Mohamed El Mahdi Lili (+90 kg) for the men, as well as as Zina Bouakache (-57 kg), Belkadi Amina (-70 kg) and Sonia Aselah (+70 kg) among the ladies.

According to the organizers, 85 judokas (43 men and 42 women), representing 14 countries from five continents, participated in this global event.
