Alexander Zverev will compete in Tokyo

After his tournament victory in Chengdu and reaching the semi-finals in Beijing, Alexander Zverev simply ran out of steam: The German Olympic champion had to beat Roman Safiullin 3:6 and 1:6 in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai admit defeat and therefore also suffer a setback in the fight for the ATP Finals in Turin.

Zverev is currently in seventh place in the race, but Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud can gain points on the 26-year-old in Shanghai. And then the question arises as to what plans eighth-placed Holger Rune is pursuing this season. The Dane doesn’t seem to be completely fit at the moment.

However, the situation is different for Zverev: For this reason, the Hamburg native will also be competing at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo from October 16th to 22nd. In addition to the tenth in the world rankings, Fritz and Ruud, among others, have also announced their participation.

In any case, things are going very quickly for Zverev in the final phase of the season: After the event in Tokyo, he will go back to Europe, where he will take part in the Erste Bank Open in Vienna (October 23rd to 29th) as well as the ATP Masters. 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy (October 30th to November 5th). The starting shot will be given in Turin on November 12th. Whether with or without Zverev.
