Alcaraz and Djokovic Battle for ATP Ranking Leadership in 2023

Two tournaments. That is what remains to know who will finish 2023 as the leader of the ATP ranking and only two tennis players are competing for that honor: Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

A large part of those chances of finishing first will be played in the last Masters 1,000 of the year, the one in Paris. It will be the first of the last two tournaments on the calendar and which could produce changes in the final classification.

The situation is not very favorable for Djokovic, since next week the Serbian will lose the 1,500 points earned in the last edition of the ATP Finals and has to defend the final he won last year in the French capital, which That’s another 600.

For his part, Alcaraz only has to defend 180 points between the two tournaments, a very advantageous situation for the Murcian. What’s more, he could already leave Paris as number one, but in all cases he should reach the final of the tournament. ‘Carlitos’ will reach the ATP Finals as number one if he wins the tournament and Djokovic does not reach the final or if the Murcian is a finalist and the Serbian does not reach the quarterfinals.

In the event that either of these two options occurs, Alcaraz would regain the number one position that he lost during the North American tour in September. What can no longer change is that Djokovic arrives as the number one seed in Turin, venue of the Finals.

And to finish the year as number one, Alcaraz should have a great performance at the ATP Finals, in almost all cases better than Djokovic, but depending on what happens in Paris, he will have more or less chances of achieving it.
