Ajax Amsterdam draws and Liverpool FC wins

Thanks to national player Pascal Groß’s debut goal in a European club competition, Brighton & Hove Albion scored their first point in the second group game in the Europa League. The international debutants from the Premier League managed a 2-2 draw at Olympique Marseille after being 2-0 down at half-time, but remain bottom of Group B.

The 32-year-old Groß, who played his first games for the DFB team in September, scored in the 54th minute for the guests, who had lost 3-2 against AEK Athens at the start. Shortly before the end, Joao Pedro (88th) equalized with a penalty kick.

Team manager Jürgen Klopp celebrated a lackluster victory in the German coaching duel with Alexander Blessin. Klopp’s FC Liverpool won Group G against Blessin’s Belgian team from Union St. Gilloise 2-0 (1-0) and thus achieved their second victory. Ryan Gravenberch took the lead in the 44th minute; it was the first goal in the Reds uniform for the new signing from FC Bayern. Diogo Jota (90th + 2) made everything clear.

The Dutch record champion Ajax Amsterdam, which was recently noticed due to internal chaos, has to wait for its first competitive win since the end of August. In the parallel match in Brighton Group B, Ajax only managed a 1-1 (1-0) draw at AEK despite an early lead. National player Steven Bergwijn (30th) scored from the penalty spot for the guests, former Leverkusen player Domagoj Vida (75th) equalized for the Greeks.

The six-time European Cup winner is only in 15th place in the Dutch Eredivisie. The derby against arch-rivals Feyenoord Rotterdam, which was canceled due to spectator riots and later continued, Ajax lost 4-0, and the separation from German sports director Sven Mislintat also caused a lot of waves.
