A documentary about former coach Christoph Daum premieres on his 70th birthday. The film is more of a tribute to a special person than a search for unknown details.
The setting is festive, lots of famous people came to a Cologne cinema on Tuesday to celebrate Christoph Daum’s 70th birthday and to see the premiere of a film about the famous football coach. But – and this is probably a phenomenon that is firmly connected to this person – there is something else just beneath the surface: Daum used to always be accompanied by a feeling of doubt or skepticism, but on this evening behind the solemn facade a worry, a hint of sadness can be felt .
Daum suffers from lung cancer. Although he seems pretty fresh and full of energy, “we have such a program that I don’t have any time to activate my tear glands,” he says and jokes about his illness: “Do you want to see my metastases and my ulcers?” He has them Hope that he and the doctors will be able to “transform this disease from an acute state into a chronic one.”
