On this Tuesday, the 40th edition of the Holguín Provincial University Sports Games was inaugurated at the Mayor General Calixto García stadium; event in which students from the University of Holguín, the University of Medical Sciences and the University of Moa compete.
The opening space of the sports event was chaired by Anabel Naranjo Paz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and general secretary of the PCC Committee at the University of Holguín; Norma Pérez Pérez, official of the Provincial Committee of the PCC; The presidents of the University Student Federation (FEU) belonging to the three houses of higher education in competition were also present.
The torch of the games was relit after four years of sporting inactivity. Thirteen disciplines, including: Baseball, Chess, Judo, Gymnastics, Volleyball and others, are in competition in the great event of Higher Education that will take place until next October 6.
The main venues for the competitions are the facilities of the Faculty of Physical Culture of the University of Holguín, the “Fernando de Dios Buñuel” Sports Athenaeum, the “Pedro Díaz Coello” School of School Sports Initiation (EIDE), the Mayabe Valley. and other campuses of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín.
The event will be distinguished by its emulative nature, in which elements such as discipline, initiatives and participation will be measured. These games are the prelude to the zonal eliminatory for the upcoming XV edition of the National Universiade 2024, the summit competition for student athletes.
This festival of muscles constitutes a fundamental substantive process for the improvement of education, the development of the spirit of improvement and fraternal emulation among students.
