Schalke also loses crisis duel against Hertha, new CEO should be chosen

Schalke 04 is slipping further and further into the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite numerous chances, the Royal Blues deserved to lose against Hertha BSC. In the meantime, the new chairman of the board of the Revierclub should be determined.
The Schalke players put their hands on their hips in disappointment and seemed at a loss: FC Schalke 04 lost the relegation duel against Hertha BSC and is slipping deeper and deeper into the crisis. Interim coach Matthias Kreutzer’s team lost 1:2 (0:1) to the capital city team on Sunday. It was the third defeat in a row for the Gelsenkirchen team, who want to introduce a new coach during the international break. They only won two of nine games in the 2nd Bundesliga.
In front of 61,887 spectators at Schalke, Smail Prevljak (41st minute) and Fabian Reese (51st) scored the goals for Hertha, who with their fourth win of the season further moved away from the lower league regions and S04. Yusuf Kabadayi scored for the hosts (80th), who ended the game outnumbered after a yellow-red card for Kenan Karaman (85th). Schalke is in the relegation zone.
After the 1:3 loss at SC Paderborn last matchday, Kreutzer made a lot of changes in his starting lineup. Central defender Timo Baumgartl, who was banished to the U23 after criticizing former Schalke coach Thomas Reis, played again from the start. Justin Heekeren made his professional debut in goal.

Tillmann is set to become Schalke’s new CEO
On the sidelines of the game it was announced that Schalke had found a new CEO. According to media reports, Matthias Tillmann will take over the position of former board boss Bernd Schröder, who had to leave the second division soccer team in August. This was reported by “Bild” after Sky presenter Yannick Erkenbrecher spoke live on TV about this personality before Schalke’s home game against Hertha BSC on Sunday afternoon. Tillmann has already worked with Schalke’s supervisory board chairman Axel Hefer.

Tillmann has been CFO at Trivago since 2020. Schalke’s supervisory board boss Hefer was chairman of the board of the Internet hotel search engine for several years. And on Thursday, Trivago announced that Tillmann would be leaving the company at the end of the year to pursue new tasks.
Hefer had already confirmed to the German Press Agency a week ago: “We have found a new CEO and reached an agreement. He will be introduced shortly during the international break.”
Kiel missed second place
Newcomer SV Elversberg caused the next surprise with the 1:1 (1:1) draw at Holstein Kiel. The Saarlanders, who had been undefeated for five games, gained a point thanks to Luca Schnellbacher’s goal in the 70th minute, after the hosts had taken the lead thanks to Timo Becker’s goal (44th).
