21-Year-Old Ben Shelton Qualifies for First ATP Final in Tokyo

The march towards the summits of Ben Shelton (21 years old, 19th) has just reached a new stage. The American qualified in Tokyo for his first final on the ATP circuit. To do this, he had to fight hard against his compatriot Marcos Giron (79th) for almost three hours (6-7 [2]7-6 [5]6-4).

Shelton notably trailed 5-2 in the second set before managing to turn the situation around in his favor. Giron then saved three set points on his serve to obtain the right to play a tie-break. Trailing 4-2, Shelton once again managed to come back and finally win the set.

In the third set, he did the hardest part by dismissing three break points in his first service game. He then broke away 4-3, breaking on his only chance of the set. Giron was not going to come back.

In the final, Shelton will face Aslan Karatsev or Japanese sensation Shintaro Mochizuki.
