The last team to start 4-0 and miss the playoffs was the Denver Broncos in 2016. One season after winning the Super Bowl, they lost their first game in Week 5 and stumbled in December. They finished the season with a 9-7 record.
San Francisco achieved its fourteenth consecutive victory in the regular season.

During the Super Bowl era (since 1966), 164 teams started 0-4. Only one has reached the postseason: the 1992 Chargers.

Offensive Player of the Week:
RB, Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers running back scored a career-high four touchdowns in their 14th consecutive season win.
McCaffrey forced six tackles and gained 54 yards after contact on 20 carries. He averaged 3.74 yards per route run en route to 71 yards in 19 plays as a receiver and found the end zone four times. McCaffrey gained 177 yards from scrimmage, scoring on three runs and a catch to help the 49ers.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Edge, Khalill Mack, Los Angeles Chargers
Mack recorded a sack once every six plays he pressured, finishing the game with six sacks and three hurries in 38 pressure opportunities.
Mack became the sixth player to have at least six sacks in a game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. The record is seven, set by Kansas City’s Derrick Thomas in 1990.
Khalil Mack set a franchise record for the Chargers’ Special Teams Player of the Week.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Kicker, Jake Elliot, Philadelphia Eagles
Elliott continues to be a constant force for the Eagles. The 28-year-old kicker’s 54-yard field goal was the game-winner for the Eagles in overtime.
Jake Elliott converted four of four attempts (36, 41, 47, 54 yards) and two of two extra point attempts.
