Wika Salim’s song becomes the national team’s theme song at the U-17 World Cup

Jakarta

PSSI launched the theme song for the U-17 Indonesian National Team at the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The song ‘Bersama Garuda’ by Wika Salim will accompany the U-17 National Team’s matches.

The launch of the official U-17 National Team song took place on the sidelines of the PSSI Partner Summit and the signing ceremony for the Garuda Team sponsors at the JW Marriot Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (27/9/2023), evening.

“Today we also launched the song the rise of Indonesian football, which starting tomorrow (Thursday) this song will be played on all radio stations in Indonesia. Later on October 14 there will be a video clip about this song,” said PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.

Erick hopes that this song will go global when it is played at the U-17 World Cup. Because the stage is the U-17 World Cup which has the opportunity to be broadcast in various countries.

“Later at the Indonesian U-17 National Team match, we will also play this song. Who knows, maybe it could be broadcast all over the world,” he said.

The song ‘Bersama Garuda’ has dangdut rhythm, which is typical Indonesian music. Later it will also be used for all levels of the national team.

“We always talk about good Korean songs, good Western songs, why don’t we have pride in Indonesian songs? And I have proven it several times, this dangdut song can be accepted in the world. Yesterday during the Asian Games, Via Vallen had a dangdut song. It was even translated to various countries,” said Erick.

Erick Thohir added, Indonesia must have the courage to introduce local culture to the international world, through world-class sporting events held in our country.

“We have to have the courage to push, because if we want to be a big country, we have to have our culture too. Likewise, in football, if we look, we have all the Philanesian methods, but that’s been a long time. Football is changing,” he said.

“Germany alone has a constellation of ways of playing, now it is inferior to Japan. Japan has found a new method of playing, with a smaller body. What does that mean? Yes, that is what has changed, in football there is a culture too.”

“So it’s the same, we encourage dangdut songs to be made international, after all Indonesian people like these songs, they are easy to digest, Western ears will definitely be able to enjoy them too. That’s culture, not only music but also in Indonesian football we also need to develop the right culture , and this is from bottom to top,” added Erick again.

The U-17 World Cup will be held on November 10 – December 2. Four cities: Jakarta (Jakarta International Stadium), Bandung (Si Jalak Harupat), Solo (Manahan), and Surabaya (Gelora Bung Tomo) will host this grand event involving 24 countries.

The U-17 national team will be involved in the competition to qualify for Group A of the U-17 World Cup with Panama, Ecuador and Morocco. All matches involving the U-17 National Team will be held in Surabaya.
