“We can’t condemn a party without knowing what happened”

BarcelonaThe joint statement of the players of the Red in which they censure the “unacceptable behavior” of Luis Rubiales, who did not arrive until two weeks after the kiss without consent to Jennifer Hermoso, avoided asking for the resignation of the president of the RFEF and focused his criticism on the damage that all of this has caused for Spanish football. In fact, the text did not even mention the player kissed by Rubiales. Because? As explained in an interview with radio stadium night (Onda Cero) the player of the men’s team and third captain of Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal, because, at least he, is not clear that Hermoso is the victim and Rubiales the culprit of the whole affair after the final of the World Cup in Sydney .

“There are legal entities that are considering whether Jennifer is really the victim of something that is being processed,” he declared, and thus justified the players of the national team staying “away” from the case. “There are people who have to decide if there is a culprit or a victim. […] Nor can we position ourselves or condemn one party or another beforehand without really knowing what happened,” he said.

“The issue has become so politicized that you are afraid to have an opinion”

Carvajal has even implicitly questioned Hermoso’s version – who declared himself “the victim of an aggression, an impulsive, sexist act, out of place and without any type of consent” – since he wanted to highlight that, for the time being, “he has not filed a complaint either”, as the Prosecutor’s Office has offered him. Despite proclaiming neutrality, the player merengue has made good the theses of those who, like Rubiales himself, attribute the campaign against him to a “false feminism”: “It is true that the subject has become so politicized that it scares you, it makes you afraid to have an opinion, it makes you afraid to say anything in which you could be wrong or that could be misinterpreted,” said Carvajal this morning. This has not prevented, however, from doubting that Hermoso is a victim.

The player’s words did not take long to raise criticism on the networks. Like those of former Barça player and now analyst Marc Crosas, for example: “The captain of Real Madrid and of the Spanish national team remains on the sidelines, because he does not know if Jenni is a victim of abuse of power, since he has not made the complaint”, he criticized X -previously, Twitter-. And he added: “You can’t be more sexist and more sleazy.”
