PARIS – Victor Wembanyama will seek the gold medal with France at the Paris Olympic Games.
The San Antonio Spurs rookie reaffirmed his commitment to the French team at next year’s Summer Games in his home country on Tuesday.
“Performing well at the Olympics would be a great story,” Wembanyama told French media. “I will be present at the Olympic Games and there is no other goal than gold.”
France came into the FIBA World Cup as the reigning Olympic silver medalists, but failed to qualify for the second round. Wembanyama did not participate in that event, as the number one NBA draft pick opted to prepare for his rookie season.
“The World Cup was very disappointing,” Wembanyama said. “But I don’t have any judgment to make because I wasn’t there.”
