In a videocast for the Belgian Football Association, Jan Vertonghen and Romelu Lukaku speak with Jennifer Heylen about everything but football. Based on some profound questions, the actress tries to look into the soul of the two Red Devils.
One of the questions: how do you show love and affection to the people you love?
“I mainly try to be caring,” was Jan Vertonghen’s answer.
“Look, I have three children and a hectic life. When I’m there, I try to be caring and interested in everyone at home. For example, by asking the right questions. I also try to do my part in an empathetic and practical way.”
“I go above and beyond,” Lukaku laughed. “That’s really my thing with my children and mother. Does something need to be done? Then I do it immediately.”
“I also didn’t miss my eldest son’s first days of school in kindergarten. Just like his first football training. Then I personally flew back from abroad to be there. And if I had training in the morning? Brother, then I went anyway. I was always there.”
To which Vertonghen answers in surprise: “Strong, I haven’t always realized that.”
Finally, Lukaku admits that his dedication does not always make relationships easy.
“Because if I don’t get the same energy back, then it stops for me. We as professional football players are no longer triggered by a fantastic body. (points to his head) It’s about what you have here.”
