Union achieves 13.5% increase in benefits for Barcel workers – El Sol de México

The National Food and Commerce Union (SNAC) achieved in negotiations with Barcel a 13.5% increase, of which 9% was a direct increase in salary and impacts 10 benefits such as short and long-term savings funds, travel expenses for foreign sellers and transporters, guarantee for new sellers and assistance award for night work.

Food vouchers increase by 20% and there are social benefits such as scholarships, death support, birth bonuses, support for culture and sports, and life insurance with a 15% increase.

“This achievement is an important milestone on SNAC’s path towards improving the working conditions and well-being of its members. We feel very satisfied with what has been achieved for the thousands of families we represent in Barcel. It is the best year for the company. The best possible increase in any industry was achieved,” said Alejandro Martínez Araiza, general secretary of SNAC.

This union is present and active under current labor standards and the T-MEC in more than 465 workplaces in 210 cities in the 32 states and has been part of the history of Mexico for 103 years.

Martínez Araiza pointed out that “business owners recognize the value of the efforts of their collaborators and what Intelligent Unionism contributes to their results.”

He explained that in the negotiation with Barcel, a company that is part of Grupo Bimbo, a global increase of 13.5% was agreed. The impact on benefits is included. The direct increase in salary of 9%. Food vouchers increase by 20%, going from 1,750 to 2,100 pesos.

In the social benefits section, the 15% increase in scholarships will be effective, with 5 additional scholarships. Support for culture and sport, better life insurance, death aid and improved birth premium.

“The negotiation reached shows the commitment of the company led by Daniel Servitje and the SNAC, to work to promote the interests of working families,” said union leader Alejandro Martínez Araiza.

He also specified that the 9% to the salary impacts ten benefits, in addition to all those established by the Federal Labor Law indexed to salary, pensions and Afores.

Smart unionism

Martínez Araiza, creator of the concept of Intelligent Unionism, said that it is based on three pillars: academic intelligence, technological intelligence, which includes the use of Google Workspace, the cloud and Artificial Intelligence to empower workers with knowledge, follow up on vital operational and KPI’s or key performance indicators.

As well as teaching workers to organize and assert their rights. And the empirical and social intelligence of the bases that is capitalized on continuous improvements in companies.

He said that membership in the SNAC does not stop growing, it is constant, in double digits year after year, making it consolidated as a reference and that to date more than 25 thousand men and women embrace a paradigm shift, unique in Mexico and a reference for the world.

Creator of the Intelligent Unionism concept, Martínez Araiza also said that the purpose of SNAC is to achieve reconciliation between companies and workers. This bottom-up model is replicable, scalable and generates high-impact results.

“We are interested in growing this social movement of workers in the country under this evolved, professional and pragmatic model. We add will, capacity and strength from the bases for the common good,” he highlighted.

He explained that the SNAC is committed to the growth of union life in the country under a model that seeks to empower and promote the potential and entrepreneurial thinking of each of its members and their families, promoting their realization inside and outside companies.

He said that SANAC is proud to be a co-creator of success stories in companies such as Grupo Bimbo, Grupo Mars, Mondelez, Arcor, Monte Xanic, Hershey, Comex, Alpezzi, Rich’s. Fisher and Paykel, Ideal Pastry, among others.

He announced that in October, the SNAC will continue the reviews of the collective bargaining contract of another of the large companies: Mondelez Snacking México.
