UN experts warn of a situation of violence which is taking on a “national” scale

In Ethiopia, recurring serious human rights violations are increasingly causing great concern to the country and its populations. The armed clashes took on a national scale. A group of United Nations experts warns and reports on the distressing situation into which the East African country has found itself.

In a press release, this committee of experts explains that: “atrocities, war crimes and crimes against humanity continue to be committed in the country”. “If the signing of the agreement made it possible to silence the guns, it did not resolve the conflict in the north of the country, particularly in Tigray, and did not bring comprehensive peace”declares the president of the commission, Mohamed Chande Othman, in a press release, according to Le Monde.

According to the report, “Hostilities in Ethiopia are now spreading nationally, with significant violations increasing, particularly in the Amhara region, but also in Oromia and elsewhere”.
