Twins Defeat Rangers 9-7 in 10 Innings, Solano Shines with Homers and Hits

Donovan Solano homered and added three more hits to help the Minnesota Twins beat the Texas Rangers 9-7 in 10 innings on Saturday.

The Rangers still maintain a game and a half lead over the Blue Jays for the last team berth drafted in the American, since Toronto also suffered a loss.

Solano had a strong game, driving in three runs for the Twins, who won their second straight game over the Rangers. They hold a game and a half lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the race for teams drafted in the American.

Texas seemed in control after two innings. Adolis Garcia and Sam Huff both hit two-run homers off Dallas Keuchel to put the team in charge.

Solano, however, put the Twins on the board with a solo slap. Minnesota enjoyed a big fourth inning. Ryan Jeffers, Michael A. Taylor and Solano hit productive hits to wrap up a Twins five-run push against Jordan Montgomery.

Leody Tavera closed the lead with a single, then Robbie Grossman forced the extra innings in the eighth inning.

The Twins, however, had fun against Aroldis Chapman in the tenth inning. They scored three against the southpaw to take the lead for good.

Yankees give Jays a helping hand

For the second night in a row, the New York Yankees got the better of the Houston Astros, this time with a 5-4 win.

This loss takes the Astros away from the top of the American West Division as the Seattle Mariners signed an 8-7 victory against the New York Mets. Houston still holds a draft team ticket, ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The loss went to Hunter Brown, who gave up five hits and five runs, including three earned, in four innings of work.

Brown’s troubles began in the second inning, when he watched the Yankees fill the trails. Brown then conceded a single to Oswald Peraza, which allowed New York to open the scoring. Moments later, Brown walked Oswaldo Cabrera and the Yankees doubled their lead.

The Astros, however, replied on their next turn at bat. With a man on the trails, Michael Brantley homered to tie the game 2-2.

Then in the third inning, Aaron Judge hit his 31st homer of the season to restore New York to a slim one-run lead. Judge had also hit the long ball on Friday.

As in the third inning, it was the long ball that allowed the Astros to win offensively. In the fourth inning, Yainer Diaz hit a two-run homer to give the Astros the lead for the first time in the game, 4-3.

Much to Houston’s misfortune, the lead only held for a few moments. In the fifth inning, the Yankees took advantage of a sacrifice fly from Austin Wells and a single from Everson Pereira to take control for good and race to victory.

On the mound for New York, starter Luis Severino allowed six hits and four runs in four innings of work.

The Yankees will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon.
