Toronto Blue Jays Secure Crucial Victory Over Tampa Bay Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays couldn’t afford to escape a second victory in as many days against the Tampa Bay Rays. John Schneider’s men united their efforts to dispose of their opponent by a score of 9 to 5, Sunday afternoon, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

This triumph greatly helps the cause of John Schneider’s men in this relatively tight playoff race in the American League.

In fact, it was a dream day for them since the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners also lost. The Blue Jays now have a two-game lead over the Astros, who are second among teams drafted in the American. The Seattle team is currently out of the playoffs, half a game behind the Houston team.

After seeing the Rays take the lead by two points in the first round, the team from the Queen City quickly responded in the next round with a five-point surge.

Whit Merrifield first tied the game with a double to center field that allowed Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho to score.

George Springer gave his team the lead with an infield home run that was good for three runs.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also stood out during the match by hitting two shots.

However, the crowd favorites closed the gap in the seventh inning thanks to a two-run slap from Isaac Paredes.

Daulton Varsho and Bo Bichette scored the insurance runs for Toronto in the eighth and ninth innings.

Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi, however, had a rather difficult outing. The left-hander gave up three runs and nine hits to the opposition in four complete innings of work.

Toronto will have a day off before starting the home stretch of the season on Tuesday. For the occasion, they will receive a visit from the New York Yankees for a series of three games. Subsequently, they will face, still at home, the same Rays for their last series of the regular season.
