Tigist Assefa runs world record at the Berlin Marathon

Shortly before the Brandenburg Gate, Tigist Assefa’s pacemaker stops. His left hand flies through the air as if he wanted to give Assefa one last burst of energy. Her white shoes fly across the floor, her stride becomes longer, her face remains motionless, focused.

What goes on in a runner’s head? Tigist Assefa, 26 years old, says her manager, 29 years old, many other sources claim, Ethiopian, is not one of the marathon runners who turn their insides out during the run. The muscles in her face are moved only by the impact of her feet on the ground, by the force that passes through her body as she pushes off. But then there are moments when it becomes clear how many emotions this young woman has.
