They will discuss the possibility for Latvia to participate in Sweden’s candidacy for hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic Games

The discussion on this issue is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3, at 8:30 a.m. at the meeting of the Sports Subcommittee of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Commission

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) and the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) have been invited to the meeting.

The meeting will be held partially remotely – in videoconference format and in the boardroom of the Education, Culture and Science Commission at Jēkaba street 16, Riga.

LETA has already reported that the Ministry of Interior, together with the LOK, will continue to consider the possibility of participating in the organization of the Winter Olympic Games in 2030.

In the spring of the Ministry of Interior, the first work discussion was held in connection with the feasibility study work started by the Swedish Olympic Committee (ZOK) on the organization of the Olympic Games in 2030 and Latvia’s involvement in it.

In order to ensure the successful completion of the feasibility study, to inform possible cooperation partners and to jointly plan further actions, ZOK has approached Latvia to consider the possibility of getting involved in the application preparation process, similar to five years ago, applying for the organization of the Winter Olympic Games in 2026.

It has already been reported that Sweden previously claimed to host the 2026 Olympic Games, including the Latvian city of Sigulda, together with Stockholm and Ori, in its offer, where it was planned to hold competitions in luge, bobsleigh and skeleton.
