Théo Pourchaire takes pole position in the Italian Grand Prix in Formula 2, Hadjar 4th and Martins 5th

Under the Monza sun, Théo Pourchaire showed his advantage during qualifying for the Formula 2 Italian Grand Prix on Friday. The Frenchman, in a position to be crowned champion at the end of the weekend (if he scores 25 points more than Frederik Vesti), took pole position in 1’32”328.

The Frenchman from ART Grand Prix beat the Briton Oliver Bearman (Prema) by 159 thousandths of a second. As for his main rival in the Championship, Frederik Vesti, he could not do better than eighth. This will put him far in the main race on Sunday, but will allow him to start on the second row for the sprint race on Saturday, where the grid is reversed for the first 10 but where fewer points are at stake (10 points to the winner against 25 on Sunday).

Behind, two other Frenchmen stood out, since Isack Hadjar (Hitech) took fourth place and Victor Martins, Pourchaire’s teammate, ranked fifth. Both will have big points to take in both races. More difficult qualification for the fourth Habs, Clément Novalak (Trident), winner at Zandvoort last Sunday, who only took 21st place.
