The Veolia Towers Hamburg Look to Advance in BBL Cup After Previous Setbacks

The Veolia Towers Hamburg want to finally survive the opening round in the BBL Cup in their third attempt. After the Bundesliga basketball team failed twice in the round of 16 in recent years, the team led by head coach Benka Barloschky wants to achieve exactly that with a win on Sunday (3 p.m.) against the ProA league team Dresden Titans. This year the competition will be held in a new format. In the first round, eight clubs from the BBL, which took places 9 to 16 last season, the two relegated teams and the six best teams from the ProA will play to advance. The eight BBL teams that qualified for the playoffs will only compete in the round of 16.

“We will be ready to make the game successful,” said Barloschky on Wednesday. He added: “We go into this game with a lot of confidence.” With a view to the preparation in the last few weeks, the 35-year-old emphasized: “I am very happy with the way I work. The players come to training every day and give it their all. They come earlier, they leave later, they do extra shifts.”

Nevertheless, Barloschky warned about the hosts: “Dresden will have one or two surprises in store. The hall will burn. This might be the game of the year for them. We have to be very focused.”

Five days after the cup, the Towers begin their fifth season in a row in the BBL with the game against the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. “The anniversary will be celebrated in a big way as part of a match day,” announced managing director Marvin Willoughby, who did not yet give a date.
