Will Coco Gauff reach her first final at the US Open?

For the home fans, everything is still possible in the women’s semi-finals at this year’s US Open. A domestic US final duel between Coco Gauff and Madison Keys is just as possible as the unpleasant look into the tube, should Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Muchova face each other on Saturday (local time). Of course, the second variant could also promise an excellent endgame.

If you look at the betting odds and the opinion of most experts, it should probably be a mixture of the above possibilities. Because mainly a trophy battle between Gauff and Sabalenka is expected. On the other hand, only very few expect the duel Keys against Muchova. But tennis – especially in women’s competitions – is always good for a surprise.

Gauff hot for the first final in New York

What suggests that Sabalenka takes the penultimate step to the Grand Slam title is this year’s first major triumph at the Australian Open in January. What speaks against the Belarusian, on the other hand, is that she has lost all five other Grand Slam semifinals in three sets in the last two years. Spoilsports were Karolina Pliskova, Leylah Fernandez, Iga Swiatek, Karolina Muchova and Ons Jabeur.

Keys is in a US Open semifinal for the first time since 2018. At that time, the 28-year-old had to bow to ex-world number one Naomi Osaka. In 2017 she was even in the final in Flushing Meadows, but had no chance against her compatriot Sloane Stephens with 3: 6, 0: 6. Gauff is definitely very excited about a first appearance in the final in New York – she made her only appearance in a major final last year at the French Open, where there was nothing to be gained against Swiatek.

In any case, Gauff has a lot of respect for Muchova. “She’s definitely one of the most talented players on the tour,” said the 19-year-old before the duel on Thursday (local time). But the young lady from Delray Beach can say the same about herself. Nerves could play a big role in the first women’s singles duel of the day.
