The Mexican handmade toy inspires an original hotel concept in CDMX – El Sol de México

The artisanal culture of our country has spoiled us since we were children, imprinting colors, shapes and all the ingenuity on traditional toys that, despite the passage of time and advances in technology, continue to entertain generations where some, perhaps, prefer a wooden top than a video game.

Under this philosophy, architect Luis González Villamil, from the TRAZOENTREDOSarquitectos firm, created the Ibis Styles México Zona Rosa hotel in which, he says, Mexican handmade toys are the soul of the decoration.

“Mexican handcrafted toys are much more than simple entertainment objects; they are a reflection of the country’s cultural richness, traditions and history. The hotel, which belongs to the Accor chain, has taken these treasures as a source of inspiration for its decoration, transmitting to guests the pride of this emblematic element of Mexico,” explains the architect.

Upon entering, you are surprised by an airplane game painted on the floor that symbolizes the traditional activity that is often played in the playgrounds of Mexican schools. “This is a unique opportunity for domestic visitors to relive their childhood memories, while foreigners have the chance to experience this charming Mexican tradition from the moment they walk through the door.” explains González.

The lobby is a visual feast. Hundreds of marbles are carefully placed under glass on the reception table, paying homage to one of Mexican children’s favorite pastimes. The walls are painted with a palette of bright, folkloric colors that evoke the essence of Mexico, and some appear with riddles and riddles related to handmade toys.

The experience not only It is enjoyed in the lobby, since elements of Mexican culture are present throughout the hotel. The seats in the common areas, such as the reception and the space to connect mobile devices, incorporate the ballero, the pirinola and the trompo, providing a seat with a touch of national authenticity.

Rooms that tell stories

The rooms transport you to a whole fun world, the kind that exists in a typical Mexican fair. The magic begins from the hallways illuminated with colored lights that resemble the appearance of a streamer and create the perfect effect for Instagrammable photos.

Upon reaching the room, a clock appears that simulates the color effect of a spinning top, which was specially designed for the decoration of the hotel. “Every detail has been carefully selected to transport you to a world of tradition and color.

“The hotel enhances its decoration to celebrate the national holidays, immersing guests in an atmosphere of unparalleled celebration. It is the perfect opportunity to experience Mexican passion and pride at its finest.

“In addition to its spectacular decoration, it is strategically located in the Zona Rosa of Mexico City. Each of the 657 Ibis Styles brand hotels in the world is characterized by having an exclusive design, theme and personality. In this case, the culture and tradition of Mexico come to life in every corner. Not only will it provide you with a comfortable stay, but it will immerse you in a unique and authentically Mexican experience,” said the expert.
