About archery

There are different types of competition, depending on the type of bow and the rules. According to Olympics, the most popular discipline is the recurve bow, in which athletes shoot at targets placed 70 meters away. Matches are played one by one and the objective is to win set points. A set is made up of the shooting of three arrows, by winning a set you get 2 points and in case of a tie only 1, whoever reaches 6 points becomes the winner of the match.

Thus, the way of scoring is done using the target, which has rings of different sizes, these range from 1 to 10, the ring in which the arrow falls determines the score. According to Olympics, when the arrow touches the boundary between two rings the highest score is awarded, that is, if it falls between 7 and 8, the archer is given 8 points. When two archers are tied on five points, a “single arrow shot” is performed; the one that lands closest to the center of the target determines the winner.

In the final of the World Cup, as World Archery mentions, 8 archers compete in each of the four categories of the tournament, these are men’s/women’s recurve bow and men’s/women’s compound bow. The winner of each of them is awarded a prize of 30 thousand Swiss francs. The difference between these lies in their operation, the compound one incorporates pulleys and the recurve ones are not used. In turn, recurve bow shooting is performed at a distance of 70 meters from 122 centimeter targets and in the compound bow discipline it is shot at a distance of 50 meters towards a target 80 centimeters in diameter.
