El Huracán champion of the 1973 Metropolitan tournament, led by coach César Luis Menotti and with a well-deserved place of privilege in the collective memory of Argentine soccer fans, he finally has his book, written by the journalist Alejandro J. Lomuto and published by Al Arco Editionsthe first national and independent imprint of so-called sports literature.

César Luis Menotti, coach of the great Huracán of 1973.

The work, of 240 pages and an appendix of photos (many contributed by the protagonists themselves), is precisely titled “Hurricane 1973, the story of an unforgettable team”; and will be presented during September, half a century after that feat in the Metro, the first and only title in professionalism for the institution.

The book, a detailed review of the history of that “Globo” of Parque Patricios divided into 18 chapters, has a prologue by the former president of the club Nestor Vicente (today one of the heads of the Culture Department of the Argentine Football Association) and back cover of the prestigious journalist Horacio Pagania privileged witness of the football developed by that “Flaco” Menotti team.

“It is a complete work with interviews with dozens of protagonists and witnesses of that phenomenon that marked a key change in the history of Argentine football. A ‘return to the sources’, simply, as announced by César Luis Menotti, the technician who commanded that revolution,” says Pagani.

And he adds: “This story deserved to be remembered with the precision that Lomuto sought so that the sum of all the voices would give it a complete interpretation.”

For his part, Vicente expresses: “Lomuto achieved what he set out to do, to tell the most complete story of that team that beats in the hearts of all Quemeros, to give those of us who were contemporaries relive an indelible time and obtain the small miracle that, Through reading it, those who did not see it feel the atmosphere, the passion and the joy that turned Patricios into a party.”

“With the pages of the book in his hands, Lomuto imagined being that 13-year-old boy who saw the unforgettable team (…) and said with an open heart: ‘Play! It’s Sunday, it’s March 4, 1973 and we face Argentinos Juniors in the Ducó.’”

For Ediciones Al Arco, the title is part of the celebrations for its twentieth anniversary, after the publication of Manos Guantadas, by Walter Vargas; One afternoon in June (the tragedy of Puerta 12), by Pablo Lisotto; A dog barking at the moon (impossible story of the Argentine catch), by Daniel Roncoli; and Norma Baylon (authorized biography), by María Luz Marín.
