The Autumnal Equinox: A Time of Balance and Equal Day and Night

Saturday 23 September 2023 at 8.49 am Italian time will officially be the autumnal equinox, that is, the precise astronomical moment in which the circle of illumination (i.e. that imaginary line that divides the illuminated half of the terrestrial globe from the one that remains “in the dark” ) passes exactly through the two poles.
On the equinoxes, in all places on Earth the day is marked by 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.

What does equinox mean?
The term equinox derives from the Latin aequa nox which means night equal (to the day).
