The Albert Sidrach Association promotes a solidarity paddle tournament in CT Figueres

One of the most social sports of our time becomes the perfect excuse to gather a handful of people around the glass courts. From the hand of Figueres Tennis Club, the Albert Sidrach Association premieres the first edition of its charity paddle tournament, from September 25 to October 1, with the collaboration of Figueres City Council, and for the benefit ofSant Joan de Déu Hospital. And it is that in his tireless fight against the Sarcoma d’Ewingthe group seeks to consolidate a tournament that marks the competition in the sports calendar of the region.

“The initiative came from a cousin of ours, both mine and Albert’s. Club Tennis Figueres opened its doors for us to be able to organize it and we are very grateful to the organization. The understanding was very quick”, explains Carles Crumols, member of the Association. Complementing a sports portfolio that already had a grassroots soccer tournament in 2019 in Navata and another with the Crossfit Siron de Figueres this 2023, the paddle is looking for immediate success.

“We try to be related to children’s and sports topics. We want to organize acts and events that are of quality and can be a real help. We always like to do things big”, adds Crumols about the initiative that seeks to bring together up to 192 couples next week, with a clear objective: “That everyone can enjoy the company of others, sport and “environment”.

A category for novices

Initially, the organization agreed on six categories: three male, two female and one special. The demand for mixed format materialized the seventh, but the last of the previous ones is the most peculiar. “There are people who follow us to all the events and who may have never played paddle. Well, we have decided to make a category for all these people, without level or who have played once in their life, to be able to make them participants in the tournament. They want to laugh, have fun and be supportive. Surely, they will be the ones who will have the best time», explains Crumols.

The group phase will be contested from Monday to Friday; the eighth and quarter-finals, on Saturday; and the semi-finals and finals, on Sunday. With the aim of consolidating the first edition of the tournament right from the start, from the Association they know that the bet on padel can be a winner from the first minute, even, to perpetuate this tournament in the future: “We ambitious, it’s for a good cause».

THE registrations are open until this Thursday, September 21, with more than half of the places occupied. The price to participate is 20 euros.
