The 2023 WTA Finals will take place in Cancun

The WTA Finals return to Mexico. Two years ago, the city of Guadalajara hosted the event (in place of Shenzhen, China, following the Covid-19 pandemic). This year, from October 29 to November 5, the competition, previously called Masters, will be held in Cancun. The agreement with the Mexican city, renowned for its tourism, only covers one year.

The WTA had wanted Shenzhen to host the Finals from 2022 to 2030. But, following the Peng Shuai affair, the body that manages world women’s tennis had preferred to relocate the 2022 edition to Fort Worth (United States). Caroline Garcia won there last November. WTA activities in China have since resumed.

The trail of Saudi Arabia

Rumor has it that the WTA Finals will be held in Saudi Arabia – the country that will host the Next Gen ATP Finals from 2023-2027. “big problems” in hosting women’s tournaments, due to women’s rights and the LGBT community there.

However, the WTA has not denied the rumor that the WTA Finals could be held in Saudi Arabia in the years to come. The body said that no decision had yet been made.
