Team Jumbo-Visma Dominates Stage 13 with 1-2-3 Finish, Evenepoel’s Nightmare Continues

Winner of the day: Team Jumbo – Visma was once again omnipresent today and put the finishing touches with a 1-2-3. Stage winner Jonas Vingegaard in particular will be satisfied after today, he is again fully participating in the battle for red.

Loser of the day: It was a serious scare on the second climb of the day. Remco Evenepoel completely fell through the ice on the Col d’Aubisque and had to give up 27 minutes today. His ranking is a lost cause.

Remarkable: The Jumbo-Visma riders occupied the entire podium not only in today’s stage, but also in the general classification. Speaking of dominance.

Tomorrow: We will also climb in stage 14. After a long run-up, the riders have to conquer 2 cols of the outer category and one of the 3rd category, the finish is at the top of the Puerto de Belagua (1st).

The trip to the south of France has become a real nightmare for Remco Evenepoel.

The Col du Tourmalet, earlier this summer the setting for the 6th stage in the Tour de France, was also used as a referee in the Vuelta today. But the Belgian champion would not last until the final climb today.

After a difficult opening phase, in which about half of the peloton tried to join the breakaway, the Col d’Aubisque finally had to bring relief and be the starting point for an early breakaway.

But the grueling climb would do much more than that. First a sick João Almeida would drop out, a few minutes later the surprising news trickled through that Evenepoel had been released.

It soon becomes clear that the young Belgian is having anything but a good day and loses the Vuelta on stage 13. His deficit is increasing rapidly, so let’s focus on the other classification men.

And it turned out that there was no match for the men of Team Jumbo – Visma. Jonas Vingegaard did not have many good memories of the passage over the Tourmalet in the Tour and wanted to wipe those images away today.

He was the first to try something with just over 8 kilometers to go, but it immediately turned out to be the right attempt. The Dane would sail solo to the finish, Sepp Kuss and Primoz Roglic controlled the chase and eventually grabbed the remaining podium spots.

And so it becomes a little more like the Vuelta of Jumbo-Visma every day.
