– Super Monday: With the best tennis player – and a musical best-of
Carlos Alcaraz gives the leader of a high-profile tennis medley. The new superstar opens the tournament on Monday evening. Before that he can listen to several music virtuosos.

It was only a few days ago that the ATP, responsible for men’s tennis, summarized a few highlights from various tournaments. They also got stuck in Basel, quite impressed, because there is something at the Swiss Indoors that cannot be found anywhere else in this form: Super Monday.
Tickets for the Swiss Indoors, which take place from October 23rd to 29th, can be ordered on the website (www.swissindoorsbasel.ch) as well as via the Ticketcorner website. Tickets are currently still available for all days – only around 1000 free seats are still available for Super Monday. Roger Brennwald is also otherwise satisfied when he says: “Pre-sales are in full swing.” (sb)
Roger Brennwald, President and owner of the Swiss Indoors, created it 15 years ago, for the loyal audience and maybe also something for himself. Because he will also know: A top musical act costs a lot of money – and hardly any spectators should be able to buy a ticket to a sporting event just so he can hear his favorite singer.
Nowadays a star like that costs a lot more money. A deep six-figure sum? Not enough. Brennwald thought, now that his event is supposed to start a new era after the interruptions caused by the pandemic and Roger Federer’s resignation (one that should also lead back to the roots): This year I’ll do it differently.
local solution
And asked yourself: Is there any solution to accomplish this without losing the glamorous flair? He therefore decided on the following variant: the choir of the Theater Basel will present a best-of program on October 23, under the musical direction of the Christoph Walter Orchestra. Songs by stars who have participated in Super Monday so far are intoned. This year there will be hits by Montserrat Caballé, Paul Anka, Abba, Amy Macdonald and Álvaro Soler.
A best of.
After that, the currently best tennis player in the world will want to present his impressive playful medley: Carlos Alcaraz. He will undoubtedly be the main attraction of this year’s edition.
But who knows, maybe the spotlight will be on someone who is only a little older at 21 (and of course still very young): Dominic Stricker (ATP 128). The surprise man at the US Open is in the third round after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 7). Brennwald’s plan was to give the Swiss a wild card – if he continues like this, he is no longer dependent on it. Stricker will start the tournament on Tuesday.
“Beautiful!”
In addition to these two figureheads, other fine spirits of tennis will also appear in the Basel artist studio: Stan Wawrinka, of course, who has become friends with the public after long, icy years. He told this newspaper about last year’s edition: “It was really an explosion of emotions. Beautiful!”
Also in the high-class field: Holger Rune, number 4 in the world. Casper Ruud, number 5 in the world. And Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 15 in the world.
Not a bad medley presented there either.
