Successful Weekend for Our Club at Auma Traditional Cup Tournament

At the traditional cup tournament in Auma, our club was once again represented with a large contingent on both days of the competition.

While on Saturday the U8, U12 and U16 athletes were able to demonstrate their skills, on Sunday our U10s and U14s were challenged. Looking at both days of competition, our team achieved 2nd place in the club ranking, which was determined using a coefficient based on placements and the total number of starters.

1st day of competition

In the U8, the competition was held in Ne-Waza, i.e. pure ground combat. 16 athletes from Jena competed; for many of them it was the first competition outside of their home judo hall. Accordingly, there was a lot of nervousness on the mat, but some very courageous judo was shown. The trainers Thomas Ziermann and Dirk Weiße had to dry their tears sometimes, but most of the time they were applauded with a “high five”.

The “Best Fighter” award for Leonardo Raymundo was particularly pleasing.

The results in detail:

1st place for Oliver Hellfritzsch, Leonardo Raymundo, Milan Kowalski, Maximilian Förster, Phong Hguyen, Anne Marie Rückert

2nd place for Fabius Reuken, Alon Cosack, Isabella Koch, Fritz Sommer, Friedrich Hercher

3rd place for Sebastian Weiße, Tomte Fügert, Klara Bermig, Bohdan Yurystovskyi, Alexander Förster

Eight athletes started in the U12. Khoi Nguyen/27.5 kg won the gold medal, after two victories he won in the final against the U13 champion Mock from JSV Stotternheim in the golden score with a counterattack technique.

Jeremiah Ziermann/36.3 kg also won the gold medal, after three impressive throwing points he was in the final. Here Jeremiah had a bit of luck on his side and won after his 3rd attack with Ippon.

Inka Lehmann/37.1 kg only had one opponent. In the “Best of Three” Inka confidently won both fights with O-Goshi and Inka also managed their two friendly fights successfully. So Inka was at the top of the winner’s podium.

Ida Rückert/28.6 kg was the last to take part in the competition. Ida had two opponents, whom Ida won with O-Goshi and then holding on and thus won the gold medal. Four tournament wins – a great result.

There were other results worth seeing. Georgyi Poretskyi/31.7 kg took second place with three wins and one loss.

Third places were also achieved by Nao Kemmler/26.8 kg (1 win, 2 defeats), Edgar Bauer/33.2 kg (2 wins, 2 defeats) and Manuel Stephan/35.2 kg (2 wins, 1 defeat). A great debut for Manuel, it was his very first competition and he managed to score two victories.

A great result, all of our U12s went home with a medal around their neck.

2nd day of competition

On Sunday, 25 athletes from our club started the tournament. Supervised by the trainers Noelia Wolf and Steffen Gröning, some very nice judo was shown and great results were achieved. It is worth noting that our youngest starters from the 2016 class already competed in the U10 and presented themselves well. Our team was strengthened today by Leonie Kostejn from Harpersdorf.

Joleen Dröschler and Robin Eckart were particularly honored as “Best Fighters”.

Two young women, Stella Jungmann and Frida Morzek, also started in the U14 age group.
