Successful Second Edition of Interfederative Judo Tournament ‘Fragata Sarmiento’ Held at Puerto Belgrano Naval Base

At the facilities of the Marine Infantry Amphibious Brigade, at the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base, the second edition of the Interfederative Judo Tournament “Fragata Sarmiento” was held.

which included the promotional categories, children A and B, cadets, Kyu novice and graduate, senior, little school and veterans.
170 judokas from different dojos from Bahía Blanca, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, La Plata, Tigre, Trelew and Viedma participated in the competition.

The total computation of points by categories consecrated the “Hikari” dojo as champion of the tournament with 148 points, while the Police High School “Comisario General Jorge V. Schoo” and the “Fragata Sarmiento” dojo, obtained second and third place with 141 and 131 points, respectively.

The representative team of the Argentine Navy obtained very good results, reaching 8 first places, 6 second places and 10 third places during the competition. It should be noted that in recent years the “Fragata Sarmiento” dojo achieved very good results at the regional, provincial and national levels.

In addition to the individual categories, prizes were awarded to the dojo that traveled the most kilometers to participate, the “Kihon” dojo from the city of Trelew being the creditor. On the other hand, the “Hikari” dojo from the city of Viedma was also awarded, for being the one that contributed the most scores to the tournament with 30 registered.

During the development of the competition, the historical ties that unite the Argentine Navy with judo continued to be strengthened, since it was this Institution that brought the first judoka to the country on board the frigate ARA “Presidente Sarmiento” in 1906.
