The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) plans to spend next year a total of 9,994.4 million pesos, 460 million more than what was spent in 2023, according to the economic package, 2024, delivered yesterday to Congress by the Secretary of the Treasury and Public Credit, Rogelio Ramírez de la O.
The agency, directed by Alicia Bárcena, will be one of the least beneficiaries of next year’s finances, the last of the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, along with other agencies such as Tourism, Territorial and Urban Development, Environment and Natural Resources, which They are even on track to reduce their budget by 2024.

Just last Monday, during its ratification in the Senate of the Republic, the chancellor, Bárcenas, asked the legislators to approve more budget to reinforce the passport offices in the country and the consulates in the world, in order to provide a better service to Mexicans.
For next year, the Foreign Ministry is requesting, in the budget project, a total of 129.14 million pesos for the Mexican consulates in the world to serve the most vulnerable groups of Mexican nationals in the world.
For next year, the SRE does not plan to spend on the creation of new positions, but it does foresee an increase in the salaries of its workers by 54.4 million pesos; six percent more than what was registered this year. Likewise, it estimates repealing 11.2 million pesos in other labor and “contingency” measures.
Of its budget for next year, the SRE plans to allocate 79 million pesos to the care of migrants, of which four million would be allocated to the care and support of girls and boys.
Five thousand 300 million pesos more would be allocated to promote the development of science and technology through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation.

For equality between women and men, the agency, responsible for foreign policy, plans to invest a total of 17 million pesos, a figure similar to that of 2023, of which 12 million would be allocated to care, protection, services and assistance. consular services, four million in administrative support and the rest, two million, for the promotion and defense of Mexico’s interests in the multilateral sphere.
