Spanish Badminton Players Shine at Slovenia Junior International, Winning Silver and Bronze

The Spanish badminton quarry has been noticed in the Slovenia Junior International, a tournament in which the national promises have won two silver and one bronze. The doubles of Macarena Izquierdo – Carmen Jiménez and Adolfo López – Carmen Jiménez have climbed to the second step of the podium, while Macarena Izquierdo has achieved bronze in the individual event.

This competition highlights not only the good health of the Spanish badminton quarry, but also that progress in doubles events continues to increase.

It should be remembered that there were six Spanish athletes displaced to Slovenian lands, namely, the Asturias CTD player Adolfo López and the Balearic CTD players Carmen Jiménez, Macarena Izquierdo, Joan Guasch, Marc Guasch and Ramon Rovira.

As far as the individual events are concerned, Macarena Izquierdo has been the most outstanding player, as she has reached the semifinals. Only the first favorite, the Croatian Jelena Buchberger, has been able to beat the young Ibizan pearl and she also had to work hard to win the match (21-16 and 21-19).

The rest of the Spaniards in singles have not had any luck, since Ramón Rovira fell in the round of 16 against the Hungarian Milan Mesterhazy (21-13 and 21-15), and the brothers Joan and Marc Guasch have fallen in the round of 32 against the Hungarian Balazs Csernyanszki ( 21-14 and 22-20) and the Belgian Antoine Voisin (21-19 and 21-10).

At the doubles level, things went well for the Spaniards in the women’s and mixed events, with Carmen Jiménez as the protagonist in both events. And the Balearic Islander won silver both in the women’s doubles with Macarena Izquierdo and in the mixed team with Adolfo López.

In the women’s doubles, the Jiménez-Izquierdo duo was fortunate to advance to the semifinals without having to play, but they were able to solve a tough match against the Austrians Sarah Dlapka and Anja Rumpold without a break (21-9, 19-21 and 21-12 ). This victory put them in the final, in which the first seeds, the Czechs Kateřina Koliášov and Kateřina Osladilová, have asserted, not without effort, their superiority (21-12 and 21-17).

In the mixed doubles, Jiménez and López showed a great level from their first match and made their way to the final, in which once again a Czech couple has ended their golden dream, since they have lost in a very close match by 21 -15, 19-21 and 13-21 against Patrik Hrazdíra and Kateřina Osladilová. The other Spanish couple in this draw, Macarena Izquierdo and Joan Guasch, has not had any luck and has been eliminated in the quarterfinals (21-18, 11-21 and 11-21).

Things haven’t gone too well for Mark Obermeier’s men’s doubles either, as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
