A trio of athletes pulled away from all their opponents shortly after the start at 10am sharp on Sunday, a sunny day with perfect temperatures for running. Andreas Reiterer (Telmekom Team), winner of the 21st edition of the race, immediately took the lead, followed by Martin Griesser (Laufverein ASV Freienfeld) and Hannes Rungger (ASC LF Sarntal Raiffesien), the athlete who holds the record for successes at the event (2008, 2011, 2018). On the following climb Andreas Reiterer increased his lead over his pursuers. Thus Reiterer crossed the finish line of the 21.1 kilometer ring with 520 meters of altitude difference first and won the 22nd Soltn Mountain Marathon.
Haselrieder stands out in the women’s field
In the women’s field, Greta Haselrieder immediately started strong, but at first Irene Senfter, athlete of the organizing association ASV Jenesien, remained close behind her. As the race continued, however, Haselrieder from Brunico maintained a fast pace and had no rivals. Thus the twenty-seven year old representative of Südtiroler LV Raiffeisen crossed the finish line first in 1h33’15”. “It was a great ride. The route is very beautiful, I ran at my own pace and it went very well. Next year I will definitely be back,” said Haselrieder after the race.
Behind her, Irene Senfter (Lana) came second, finishing the race in 1h43’14”. At the end of a race in pursuit of Senfter, Natalie Mitterrutzner from Brixen took the third step of the podium and finished the course in 1h43’23”. With third place of the day Mitterrutzner narrowed her gap to the leader of the women’s ranking of the Top7 running circuit. Sarah Giomi (CUS Pro Patria Milano): The last race of the circuit will therefore be decisive.
