Sofia Kenin is back
A few months ago, American star coach Rick Macci warned in a podcast with Patrick McEnroe that Sofia Kenin should not be forgotten. She is a great fighter. And I will soon celebrate success again on the courts of the WTA world. Well: The last two weeks seem to prove Macci’s thesis. Because Kenin reached the final in San Diego, which she lost to Barbora Krejcikova.
And this week the 2021 Australia Open winner is again in the semi-finals at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Guadalajara. Kenin defeated Leylah Fernandez 6:4, 6:7 (6) and 6:1 in an entertaining match on Thursday (local time). In the semifinals, Kenin will play against Caroline Dolheide, who took advantage of the opportunity in Mexico and was able to beat Martina Trevisan 3:6, 7:6 (4) and 6:3 in the quarterfinals. Trevisan had previously defeated tournament favorite Ons Jabeur.
Maria Sakkari and Caroline Garcia will contest the second semi-final. Sakkari won against Emiliana Arango 6:3 and 6:4, Garcia beat Victoria Azarenka with the same result.
