Setback for Tim Brys at World Rowing Championships as Olympic Qualification Remains Elusive

Setback for Tim Brys at the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade (Ser). The skiffeur stranded in the quarterfinals and has therefore not yet been able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris. The double scull is also out, the light double scull made it to the semi-finals.

Tim Brys (31) had to start in the toughest series of the quarter finals, including defending champion Oliver Zeidler and the strong New Zealander Thomas Mackintosh.

A third place was within reach. With Borch, Brys kept the number 2 in Tokyo behind him, but he choked on the Japanese Arakawa.

The 4th place was not enough to push through, only the top 3 qualify.

Sour for Brys, because he did set the 9th time on 24 boats. And the top 9 at the World Cup qualifies directly for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Marlon Colpaert (light skiff) is also no longer eligible for the prizes. He also rowed to 4th place in his quarterfinals.

Fortunately for Brys, there are still two Olympic qualifiers on the schedule. Tim Maeyens and Hannes Obreno have also placed themselves in this way in the past. They both rowed Olympic finals.

Light double sculls remain on course for Paris

Niels Van Zandweghe and Tibo Vyvey are still in the running at the World Cup. They qualified for the semi-finals in the light double sculls.

With another strong final sprint, the Belgian boat managed to reassemble Australia in the quarter finals.

Van Zandweghe and Vyvey finished 3rd in their series, after Olympic champion Ireland and number 3 Tokyo Italy.

Of all participants, the Belgians put down the 8th boat.

The semi-finals are scheduled for tomorrow, the final on Saturday. The top 7 goes to Paris.

Double sculls 6th and last in quarterfinals

Aaron Andries and Tristan Vandenbussche will have to row some more races to book an Olympic ticket. They finished 6th and last in their quarterfinals this afternoon.

Not illogical, Andries and Vandenbussche were faced with a very tough assignment. The young duo was not only in a disadvantageous track (with a lot of crosswind), the opposition was very strong.

Winner Spain is the vice world champion, number 2 Italy had an Olympic champion from the 4-man boat with Sartori.

Andries and Vandenbussche also get chances to qualify for Paris.
