Sea Games 2023: Ischia Island to Host Four Days of Sports and Aggregation

The 2023 edition of the Sea Games was officially presented to the press in the CONI Hall of Honour, in the presence of the President of CONI, Dr. Giovanni Malagò, del Deputy Vice President of CONI, Dr. Silvia Salis, of the President of FIPSAS, Prof. Ugo Claudio Matteoli, of the Contact of the General Directorate for Technological Innovation and Communication of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, Dr. Domenico Repetto, of the Head of Office Communication from the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard, Captain of Vessel (CP) Cosimo Nicastro, from the Director of the Kingdom of Nettuno Marine Protected Area, Dr. Antonino Miccio, from the Mayor of the Municipality of Serrara Fontana, Dr. Irene Iacono, and the Director of the Motorcycle and Marine Division of Suzuki Italia, Dr. Paolo Ilariuzzi.

After the resounding success of the last edition staged on the beach of Vasto, the island of Ischia will host the 2023 edition of the Sea Games from 14 to 17 September, involving all the municipalities of the “Green Island” with an intense program that will see sports federations and clubs as protagonists, who, for four days, will organize events, stages and moments of interactivity with the public, giving residents and holidaymakers four days of sport and aggregation as a tradition of this historic event. Forio (Chiaia Beach), Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola Terme, Ischia, Barano d’Ischia and Serrara Fontana will be the municipalities where, on the beaches or in the squares, sport will be the absolute protagonist. The initiative is led by FIPSAS (Italian Federation of Sport Fishing, Underwater Activities and Finswimming), which managed to involve the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security with a dedicated format, the Department for Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Metropolitan City of Naples, the General Command of the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard, the Italian Red Cross, SOS Children’s Villages and, naturally, the six Municipalities of the Island with a specific program taking into account the needs and of the characteristics of each locality, the National CONI and the Campania CONI. Accompanying each activity will once again be Suzuki, present in the water and on land with its own vehicles. The “first time” however is with the water supplier: Ferrarelle, in fact, has “boarded” the Sea Games. On the calendar, as usual, many of the disciplines that can be practiced outdoors and in water will take place, at a competitive and recreational level, with a full program of activities, under the aegis of FIPSAS. Fishing, casting, simulations and interactivity, coastal trolling, shore rod, underwater photo shooting, underwater video contest, underwater photo safari and much more. But the highlight of the entire program will be the attempt to set two new CMAS (World Confederation of Underwater Activities) world records for deep freediving, which, on Thursday 14 September, will be carried out in the waters of Sant’Angelo, in the municipality of Serrara Fontana. The protagonists will be: Fabrizio Pagani, athlete from Terni, disabled and holder of several world records in indoor (swimming pool) and sea depth specialties, who will try to beat the CMAS world record for freediving in variable weight with fins, and Alessandro Cianfoni, also a disabled person, born in Velletri in the province of Rome and resident in Switzerland, where he holds the role of primary neuroradiology doctor at the Neurocentro della Svizzera italiana; all-round athlete, several times Italian wheelchair tennis champion and already holder of the CMAS World Record for Disabled People in Dynamic Freediving without tools in a 25 m pool, who will attempt the world record in constant weight freediving without fins. Still with regards to underwater activities, the members of the Club Azzurro of Underwater Photographic Safari will go into the water, as well as some of the best Italian underwater photographers and video operators, who will create artistic photos and films in the Marine Protected Area of ​​the Kingdom of Nettuno, in able to enhance the natural beauty of the seabed of the island of Ischia. Photos and videos which will then be possible to admire in the video projection scheduled in Ischia on the evening of Saturday 16 September. On the morning of Sunday 17 September, in Ischia Ponte, in the water space in front of the Aragonese Castle, the open water fin swimming competition called “1st Isola d’Ischia Trophy” will be staged, which will see athletes belonging to all categories as protagonists : competitive, master competitive, beginners and Difir.

The program of FIPSAS sporting events will also include three fishing competitions: 2nd Surfcasting Giochi del Mare Trophy (Maronti Beach – 16 September), 2nd Trofeo Costiera Giochi del Mare (Porto di Forio – 17 September) and 2nd Trophy Canna da Riva Giochi del Mare (Port of Lacco Ameno – 17 September).

As for the other disciplines, as always the Sea Games will offer the opportunity to watch and try out numerous “beach” and sea activities, including beach volleyball, basketball and bowls (Chiaia beach in Forio d’Ischia ), a spectacular Roller Day which will also be held in Forio in front of the Soccorso church. Aquathlon, sailing and table tennis with TXT (Lacco Ameno). Judo and taekwondo (Casamicciola Terme). Beach water polo, sailing in the port (Ischia Porto), basketball in the square and orienteering (Barano d’Ischia). Great space for sailing, the “queen” activity that has always been on the Green Island with various activities that will end on Sunday 17 September with the classic sailing in the port of Ischia.

On 15 September, in close collaboration with the schools of Ischia and the Nautical Institute, the format on the “Talent Search”, to which will be added some decisive activities on environmental safety, the correct recycling of waste and the innovative experience linked to revival of the use of plastics. All in symbiosis with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. Finally, Beghelli Spa will donate 20 air sanitizers to a school on the island. Ms Channel (Sky channel 814), the official broadcaster of the event, will follow every activity from the opening ceremony of the Sea Games, which will take place on 14 September, with the presence of sporting and political authorities, at the end of the two world record attempts in freediving for disabled people in Sant’Angelo (Serrara Fontana).
