Rovanperä extends championship lead at Acropolis Rally

World champion Kalle Rovanperä extended his lead in the world championship standings with victory in the Acropolis Rally on Sunday. The Toyota driver from Finland is now 33 points ahead of his brand colleague Elfyn Evans, while the third-placed Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) is already 66 points behind the overall leader.

There are still three races left on the calendar. In Greece, the 22-year-old Rovanperä won after four stages with a lead of over one and a half minutes over the Welshman Evans. Neuville, who was initially in the lead in the Lamia region, had to retire after a defect on Saturday, as did the Frenchman Sebastien Ogier, who was then on course for victory.

The Acropolis Rally shakedown was canceled on Thursday due to heavy rains in Greece. The rally then started in dry conditions. The next World Cup stop is the Rally Chile from September 28th.
