Robert Lewandowski Scores 100th Goal in UEFA Competitions

Robert Lewandowski is unstoppable at the start of the new Champions League season! In the clash with Royal Antwerp, the Polish striker made it 2-0 for the Catalans after just 22 minutes – and broke a personal sound barrier.

The 35-year-old scored 100 goals in UEFA competitions. 92 goals alone in the Champions League for three different clubs, plus three goals in the UEFA Cup qualification, one in the UEFA Cup itself, two goals in the Europa League qualification and two more in the Europa League. Overall: 100!

At the end of the game it was a clear 5-0. Joao Felix (11th/66th), Gavi (54th) and an own goal from Jelle Bataille (22nd) sealed the Catalans’ clear victory.

In the Champions League top scorers list, Lewandowski remains in third place behind the greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – and now two goals ahead of France’s national striker Karim Benzema.

The record goal was not a particularly complex undertaking for “Lewy”. Against a clearly inferior Antwerp led by coach and ex-Bayern player Mark van Bommel, Joao Felix was able to keep his opponent Wijndal away with his dribbling and short dash into the middle and cross to the second post.

There, Lewandowski was criminally unmarked, Coulibaly narrowly canceled out the offside and allowed the Pole to slot in from five meters. The Blaugrana fans could already feel safe at half-time: the result was 3-0 at the half-time whistle.

In the parallel game in Group H, FC Porto celebrated an important victory for what was supposed to be the only remaining place behind Barca, which entitles them to advance.

In the game played in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, all four goals of the evening came in the first half hour. Galeno scored a brace for the Portuguese (8th/15th), Mehdi Taremi scored the third goal (29th).

Only Kevin Kelsy (13th) was able to keep Donetsk close for a short time in a 3-1 defeat.
