Riga City Council Allocates Funds for Fan Zone and Welcome Event for Latvian Basketball Team

The Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Riga City Council suggested supporting the continuity of operation of the fan zone in the Esplanade until September 10, allocating EUR 34,430 in funding. On the other hand, it is planned to allocate 64,267 euros for the organization of the team’s ceremonial welcome event.

Therefore, a total of 98,697 euros have been allocated to the mentioned measures.

The Riga City Council previously decided to spend 97,700 euros on organizing a public viewing of the Basketball World Cup at the Esplanade until the beginning of September. Therefore, more than 196,000 euros are planned to be used for the establishment of the fan zone and the welcoming of basketball players.

As reported, in the center of Riga, on the Esplanade, there is a basketball fans’ zone with a large cube screen, as well as a TV3 live sports studio.

There are vendors at the venue, where you can buy snacks, refreshments and souvenirs.

Initially, it was planned that the fan zone in the esplanade would operate until September 3, but thanks to the successful game of the Latvian basketball team, its operation was extended.

It has already been reported that today the Latvian basketball players will compete against Germany in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, which has won all five games played so far.

The final tournament of the World Cup will end on September 10.
