Reunion Dominates in Handball, Basketball, and Kickboxing at Indian Ocean Islands Games

Seventh day of competition at the Indian Ocean Islands Games in Madagascar, this Friday, September 1st. In handball and basketball, the Reunionese are qualified for the finals. More medals for Reunion, especially in kickboxing. All the results to be found here as they come.

This Friday, September 1st was the seventh day of competition at the Indian Ocean Island Games in Madagascar. Football, volleyball, athletics, karate, kickboxing: Reunionese athletes have won new medals and new victories leading them to the final. Nearly 460 athletes from the Reunion team are taking part in the games in 19 disciplines.

In handball, for men, Reunion beat Comoros 40 to 21. Reunionese handball players also qualify for Sunday’s final to be held at 4 p.m. Reunion will face Mayotte who won 28 to 27 against Madagascar.

On the women’s side, Reunion beat Comoros 36-19. The Réunionnaises dominated the match and qualified for the final. They will face the Malagasy on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Malagasy beat the Mahoraises 34 to 23 this afternoon. Mayotte will play bronze on Saturday against the Comoros.

At men’s, the basketball players from Reunion also beat Mayotte 75 to 52. At halftime, the Reunionese led 37 to 26 against Mayotte. They will be in the final against Madagascar. Four years ago, basketball players from Reunion left Mauritius with the bronze medal.

In women’s basketball, the Réunionnaises also qualified for the final. They beat the Mahoraises 89 to 36. At the break, the Réunionnaises were already leading 53 to 23. The final will take place tomorrow, Saturday at 3 p.m. They will also face Madagascar.

Reunionese Esther Condé Turpin wins the silver medal in the long jump with 6’01. “I’m a little disappointed because I wanted the gold medal, she said on Réunion La 1ère. I didn’t have enough warm-up time, but that’s how it is, you have to get used to it”.

In the 200m, Hajatiana Randrianasolo finished second and won the silver medal. Just like Emma Métro on the 5000 m.

Reunion also brought back a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m relay.

Reunionese Tony Pausé won the silver medal in the Men’s 800m Sport Adapte.

Reunionese Dylan Clerville won the gold medal this afternoon in less than 63.5 kg.

In the process, Julien Testan also won l’or in less than 71 kilos.

This morning, defeat of Brunela Araux in the final against her Malagasy opponent, so she leaves with the silver medal in less than 48 kilos. Defeat also in the final for Cédric Passeret in less than 54 kilos, he leaves with the silver medal. Brice Vallant also leaves with the silver medal in less than 60 kilos after a defeat against his Malagasy opponent. Samuel Javegny in less than 67 kilos and Boris Siva in less than 75 kilos, also leave with a silver medal each.

The semi-finals will take place tomorrow, Saturday 2 September. Among women, Reunion will face Mayotte and Madagascar against Mauritius. For men, Reunion will face Mauritius, and Madagascar will face Mayotte. The finals will follow.

In table tennis, it was the last day of the tournament with the men’s and women’s singles finals.

The end is bitter for the Reunionese table tennis players who did not pass the eighth of the finals. Only two girls made it to the quarters, Marion Mouflet and Solène Almery, without qualifying for the next round.

In badminton, the quarter-finals were played this Friday. The Reunionese won two bronze medals in men’s doubles with Thibaud Cougouille and Loïc Nanicaoudin, and in women’s doubles with Lyhoa Chai and Marina Bielle.

In the men’s doubles, the pair Xavier chane fung ting and Aaron Assing are in the final tomorrow, Saturday.

The mixed doubles semi-final is underway with Xavier Chane Fung Ting and Lyhoa Chai.
