Four ASEAN countries are taking part in the 2023 Asian Games. The four countries are Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Myanmar is the country with the best points compared to other ASEAN countries. Myanmar was able to get four points from the three matches they played in Group A. Myanmar only lost once, namely when they met hosts China.

Myanmar National Team Competes in Group A

Myanmar may not be considered in the competition in Group A of the 2023 Asian Games. However, coach Michael Feichtenbeiner’s team performed quite well and qualified for the Round of 16.
On matchday 3, Myanmar drew 1-1 against India. This result was a key factor in making Myanmar qualify for the round of 16.
Myanmar is the team in third place in the final standings of Group A, with four points. Htet Phyo Wai and friends qualified as one of the best third ranked teams.

Thailand has never won but made it to the Big 16

Thailand was lucky enough to qualify for the Round of 16. Because, the team created by coach Issara Sritaro qualified for the round of 16 without winning in the group phase.
Thailand only got two points in Group E. Two points were obtained when they drew against Bahrain and Kuwait. Meanwhile, when they met South Korea, Thailand lost with a score of 4-0.
Thailand qualified for the round of 16 with the status of one of the best third places. The War Elephant is in 3rd place in the best third ranking standings.

The luck of the Indonesian National Team

Indonesia could be said to be lucky to be able to qualify for the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Games. Because, even though they lost the last two matches, Indra Sjafri’s troops qualified thanks to the surprise made by Kyrgyzstan on matchday 3.
Kyrgyzstan won 4-1 over Chinese Taipei on matchday 3. This result is the key for Indonesia to be in 3rd position and secure a place as the best third place.
In Group F, Indonesia got three points from the win against Kyrgyzstan. Meanwhile, when they met North Korea and Chinese Taipei, Indonesia lost and failed to score a goal.

Vietnam Battered

Vietnam lost with a score of 1-2 to Saudi Arabia on the third matchday of Group B. This result put Vietnam in 3rd place in Group B’s final standings with three points.
Should Vietnam have more points than Thailand in the race for best third place? Oh, not really.
In the best third place standings, the results against the team at the bottom of the standings are not counted. This was implemented so that the number of matches played was the same as teams from Group D and only had three teams.
Well, Vietnam won when they met Mongolia, who were bottom of Group B. Those points don’t count. Vietnam lost to Iran and Saudi Arabia. So, they don’t get points.
