It will be a day of celebration for youth basketball in our area, with many 4v4 matches featuring under-13s from the youth sector of many local basketball clubs, and certainly of great emotion for everyone, especially for Matteo’s beloved mother, Silvana , who had waited so long for her son to be remembered in this way, more than three years after his death, which occurred after an agony that lasted five months.

It was Fip itself, among the various projects financed for its 100th anniversary of its foundation, that allocated a significant contribution for the refurbishment of the outdoor basketball court to be dedicated to Marchiori, within the “Papa Luciani” patronage. of the Mestre parish (which then directly took steps to cover the remainder of the huge costs of the work).

This is how, despite the great pain of no longer having Matteo’s smile among us, our friends and the parish priest Don Stefano Cannizzaro can proudly announce the renovation of the playing fields.

And the patronage and parish were the places where Matteo began to love the game of basketball, as the protagonist and animator of a mini-basketball center of the same name, first created by Paolo Ceccato.

The adventure then continued with activity at a federal level, with the creation of the “Leoncino” team which also gave its name to an important youth tournament. From there, step by step, Matteo managed to make the world of the segmented ball his natural habitat.

The naming of the playground is the result of the intense and incessant work carried out by the friends so dear to Matteo, who could not let this sad event pass without Marchiori being remembered as he deserved, for his innate ability to attract so much affection and for his great talent for which he was the fulcrum of the world of basketball, first in the Venetian province, then in Veneto and finally throughout Italy. And the Federation recognized this, so much so that the presence of President Petrucci at the dedication ceremony on Sunday 17 September is added to the one which, on 26 October 2020, was held in the “Rodari” gym in Favaro Veneto, and which always saw the “number one” of the FIP intervened with a heartfelt speech on a very intense day, in which the many friends who came from all over Italy, as well as many local and national basketball personalities, remembered Matteo with videos and testimonies.

That was precisely the day in which, also through a fundraiser created with the sale of many “basketball memorabilia” that Matteo had collected over many years of his passion and activity, the “fuse” of a project was lit that has now become reality .
