MADRID, 14 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

“Real Zaragoza has finally been forced to desist from submitting an offer to the competition called by the city council to build and finance the new football stadium in exchange for its management and exploitation,” the club said in a statement.

The Zaragoza team recalled that “it was determined to attend” and that “it had officially stated so”, but regretted “the legal uncertainty created by the appeal presented by the Municipal Group of Podemos before the Administrative Court of Public Contracts of Aragon and the annulment of the specifications decided by said body”, which have generated “an obstacle that has ultimately turned out to be insurmountable in obtaining external financing”.

The club pointed out that “not even the precautionary measures adopted later by the Superior Court of Justice of Aragon, which endorsed the procedure in the initial terms, have made it possible to overcome this obstacle.”

“The negotiations initiated with different sources of external financing and that were moving in the right direction have been truncated by the uncertainty and legal doubts raised in the markets, still pending a ruling that, in all probability, will be issued beyond the final deadline of the competition, on September 15,” added Zaragoza, which “deeply regrets having to give up participating in the competition” for the construction of La Nueva Romareda.

In any case, the entity insisted that it remains “committed” so that “the city, the team and the fans can have a new stadium” and thus be able to maintain the Aragonese capital’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup.

“In this sense, Real Zaragoza makes the Preliminary Project available to the City Council, as well as the projects that it has commissioned and that will be completed in July 2024, which are being developed by the consulting firm IDOM and the architect César Azcárate during the last few months. , which has generated so much enthusiasm in our fans, Zaragoza and Aragon, and is currently included in the city’s candidacy to host the World Cup event so relevant for all Aragonese,” he stated.

In July, the Administrative Court of Public Contracts of Aragon (TACPA) admitted the allegations presented in May by Podemos against the specifications for the new La Romareda stadium, in which it questioned the legality of the uses of surface rights and that for the purple formation It should be an administrative contract.
