The reading of the ruling in the Football Leaks case is scheduled for today at 2:30 pm. If there is no new postponement, Rui Pinto will know whether or not he is accused of the crimes that are alleged against him and that made him known throughout the country. The sentence should have been announced on July 11th but was postponed due to the amnesty law, which dropped some of the crimes the hacker was accused of.
The Pope’s visit to Portugal, in August, amnestied all criminal offenses whose applicable penalty was not more than one year in prison or 120 days of fine for people who were between 16 and 30 years old when they committed these crimes. Rui Pinto was 30 when he was arrested in Hungary in 2019. Before this pardon, Rui Pinto, now 34 years old, was accused of 90 crimes: 68 of improper access, 14 of violating correspondence, six of illegitimate access and also sabotage information technology to Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in the attempted form, to Doyen. This last crime also led to the prosecution of lawyer Aníbal Pinto. During the process, the defendant claimed to be the author of the Football Leaks website but denied having created the Mercado de Benfica page, in which the club da Luz, rival of FC Porto, of which he is a fan, was attacked.

The hacker has always defended that he is a whistleblower but ended up admitting to some crimes, appearing remorseful and even starting to collaborate with the justice system. “From now on I will not commit any crime,” he assured.
